Family Barbecue

By Ryan Coghill

There will be no more fights between the two.
Sleep will finally be a time to lie
down truthfully
on a barbecue.
My flesh can burn in peace and
the smell of crisped hair will carry through the yard.
Brother and Sister will be at ease as well.
They will now have two houses to visit.
During the holidays they will get double the presents!
And double the meat!
And double the lectures!
And third degree burns all over their feet.
The warmth of it all will take us
back to the time we were in our mother’s womb.
We the three children know it well, as my father does too.
